Rocky Point Park was an amusement park and shore dinner hall on the coast of Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. For over 150 years, New Englanders assembled at the park for a game of baseball, for a picnic, for a rock and roll concert, or to ride on the Tilt-a-Whirl. In 1996 the park closed. With its rides sold off, the park became a ghost town, scheduled for demolition and prepared for new construction.
Nicole Gesmondi’s love for abandoned structures led her to teaming up with the documentary film crew creating the Rocky Point movie, “You Must Be This Tall”. Prior to this project, Nicole had been photographing the decaying amusement park for almost two years. As the Still Photographer for the film, Nicole was able to gain legal access to the location and the interiors of each building. A selection of her images may be viewed here and purchased at nicolegesmondi.imagekind.com.
