Mike and Heidi originally met (at a wedding!) 18 years ago and have been married for 15 of those years. When we initially spoke, they admitted their original wedding was a “hot mess” and they had a "bit of a photography disaster"while they received many photos to remember their day – they did not love many of them (posing, cropping, lack of attention to details etc) which is why they decided to have a vow renewal to mark their 15th anniversary. As a bonus, this time around they were excited to include their five children in the ceremony, the celebration, and of course the professional photos!

For their vow renewal venue, Mike and Heidi chose the historical Eisenhower House in Newport, Rhode Island. Everything was to take place outdoors, taking advantage of the beautiful weather by the ocean in July. The vibe was Newport casual, coastal, and classy - which was perfect for this small celebration attended by fifteen of their closest family and friends.

For the photography, Mike and Heidi requested fluid and candid shots to capture the special moments from their vow renewal, so we made sure to be there at all the right times without interfering with the ceremony. Hearing their handwritten vows was so heartfelt and moving – 15 years gives you a lot of insight on what really matters in a marriage, and you could tell Mike and Heidi meant every word of it!

We also did a few formal photos on the beautiful grounds surrounding Eisenhower House. It is so special to see what 15 years of happily ever after brought them: five fantastic kids and a lovely family. Afterwards when they viewed their photos, Mike and Heidi said, “Thank you for giving us the wedding photos we never got,” and that gives us all the feels!

Thoughts from Heidi and Mike…

What was the favorite part of your ceremony or reception?

Heidi: Exchanging vows. We got married very young and never exchanged handwritten vows. We poured out our hearts to one another at our vow renewal ceremony. It was a romantic and sweet moment.

Mike: Celebrating with our 5 children and our closest friends and family at the stunning Eisenhower House.
