Four Generation Family Portrait

The Salk family was referred to us from guests who attended a wedding we photographed (have we mentioned we LOVE referrals!?) for a portrait session to include FOUR generations of their large family. Obviously, we were honored and excited to photograph such a big group for a such a special occasion: it was the Salk matriarch’s birthday!

This family portrait captures FOUR generations!

Her children have grown and even have grandchildren of their own now; their families are scattered throughout Rhode Island and New York. Since they were all coming together for her birthday party, it was the perfect timing for an on-location photo shoot at the family home in East Greenwich.

The house is gorgeous with neutral colors walls and lots of natural light. We moved a few things around to create a space large enough for everyone to stand and sit for their photo session in the great room. Do not worry, we put everything back when we were finished. You would never know we were there!

When photographing large groups, we start with everyone together first, in case the little ones get tired and have meltdowns. This way, we are guaranteed to the most important picture: the one of all four generations! Then we photograph the individual families, which gives the little ones a break! As we grow older and get busier it gets harder and harder to bring large families together like this, which is why it is so important to have these moments captured! Mama Salk ended up with a large framed and matted portrait for the wall they will all cherish for generations to come!
