Romany Cury Family Portraits at Gurneys, Newport!
Since Romany, her husband Neal, and their daughter live in Florida and her stepdaughters live in New Jersey, she decided it was time for a family vacation in Newport, Rhode Island so they could reunite for the first time since Covid struck and have their photos taken. They usually have portraits done yearly, but with all the travel restrictions and complications of 2020 and 2021, these were long overdue!
They booked their stay at Gurneys Newport Resort and Marina and asked about local photographers they recommended for photo shoots. From what we hear, Gurneys gave them four names and Romany chose us because they liked the photos on our website the best. Yay!
After a phone consultation, we decided to take their portraits right at Gurney's where they were staying. With SO many scenic views of the Newport Bridge and Narragansett Bay it is the premier spot for Newport photo shoots – so why leave? Plus, it made the session super convenient for the family!
Because light is a priority for portraiture (and can be unpredictable at sunset), we brought our assistant along to handle our lighting equipment, which was invaluable (Romany’s own words!) to capturing stellar photos. It is just one advantage of hiring a professional versus having a friend snap a few pictures for you!

What was your favorite part about working with us?
You are extremely personable from the get-go, as well as extremely responsive. Also, no question or concern was too little. All were treated with respect and consideration. Another bonus, you immediately remembered everyone’s names and their relationship to each other. Very appreciated!
Did I help solve any unexpected problems that may have come up during planning your session? If so, what?
I don’t think we had any unexpected problems. I have no doubt that you would’ve done excellent problem solving if we had unexpected problems!
Was there anything that you learned about me and how I shoot that you didn't know ahead of time?
You were much more spontaneous than I had expected - which also worked out very well. You were very creative with ideas and suggestions. Also, you were even more aware of light than I had expected - also wonderful. We very much appreciate the assistant with you who provided additional lighting.
Since you ordered products through us, can you say what you like about the ordering process / actual product?
We absolutely love the two variations of Christmas cards that we ordered. You have excellent options of cards available. You were very responsive with edits. The actual cards are excellent quality, exceeding our expectations. In addition, the digital prints of photos that we ordered are also excellent quality.
Did you see a difference in quality from ordering through a studio vs on your own?
There is definitely a superior quality product, ordering through a studio vs on my own!
