The Providence Biltmore’s 100th Birthday Bash from Graduate Hotels

100 years ago, the Providence Biltmore opened to much fanfare in our capital city. Built in the popular beaux-arts style, it was the second tallest building around for years and has since earned a permanent place on the National Register of Historic Places and in the hearts of Rhode Islanders!

Such an iconic landmark couldn’t pass its 100 year mark without a celebration, so Graduate Hotels (the new owners) threw a bash worthy of the Biltmore legacy. We were honored when they asked us to photograph the event; we’ve had a longstanding working relationship with the hotel and were so excited to have such an important role in the festivities!

Since the Biltmore was completed in 1922, the party had all the glitz and glamour of a roaring twenties theme; Some guests even dressed for the era in period attire! True to the time, a big band played throughout the evening and guests were treated to performances by the Tropigals, a vintage dance company from Chifferobe Events. If you want authentic entertainment for your next party or event, definitely check them out!

The guestlist included over 200 people, even Jorge Elorza, the mayor of Providence, was in attendance. It’s not every day you get to celebrate a century of Providence history, so no wonder the event was so popular! One of our favorite parts of the party (aside from the music, the dancing, and the food) was the mini-museum of historical artifacts and ephemera from the Hotel’s long past. This included antique photographs, old fixtures, original room keys, newspaper clippings, receipts, and more. It truly felt like we were looking back in time, and we can’t help but think that in another 100 years the photos we took of this night will probably be on display for the Biltmore’s 200th Birthday Bash – and that’s pretty cool!
