Coordinating a Styled Shoot with the RIWG in Newport, Rhode Island

As a long serving board member of the Rhode Island Wedding Group, (a collaborative of wedding professionals in Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts), I was excited when the group decided to put together its first ever styled shoot featuring RIWG members and their services. Since I was the lead photographer, I played a key role in coordinating the logistics, theme, and goals of the shoot with a few other members.

We decided on a “Destination Newport” theme because (obviously) Newport is gorgeous, but also because so many vendors participating in the shoot frequently work in the area. Not to mention, the three venues we chose to feature are stunning! For the “Getting Ready” and “First Look” portion of the shoot we were at Gurney’s, then we moved over to Easton’s Beach for the “Wedding Ceremony” before finishing up with a “Wedding Reception” at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Coordinating the logistics and timeline were tricky, but this is something we do (or help do) all the time with real weddings. The photographer always knows what shots they need and when they need to get them!

While we do work “real” weddings with other members of the RIWG all the time, the shoot was different because it gave us all the opportunity to work together to create a cohesive shoot while showing off all the latest and greatest trends, fashions, and venues that we offer on the Newport wedding scene. It is not every day us vendors get FULL creative control over what we do!

Overall, this was a fantastic experience - and not going to lie, I captured a lot of beautiful photos! Keep an eye out for them on social media, we plan to share plenty of them – which was our main goal from the shoot!
